Philadelphia’s ICA Names James E. Britt Jr. Director of Public Engagement
The Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania has announced that James E. Britt Jr. will join its staff as director of public engagement. Britt will help the ICA integrate its curatorial program within the curriculum of the university’s twelve schools, oversee a range of public outreach programs, and develop new partnerships with civic, educational, and cultural institutions throughout the city.
Britt comes to Philadelphia from Chicago, where he oversaw partnerships and engagement opportunities with students and local organizations as the director of multicultural affairs at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and as the associate director of community service at the University of Chicago. Previously, he served as the director of African American student affairs at Northwestern University and the coordinator of student development at California Polytechnic State University.
Commenting on the appointment, Amy Sadao, director of the ICA, said, “Britt’s educational background and experience of working with various universities to foster and deepen connections with the broader community are a perfect fit for this position and we’re looking forward to beginning our work together.” Britt will join the ICA in August 2018.
